In 2014, Oregon's HB3460 allowed for the opening of medical marijuana dispensing facilities to provide safe access for qualifying medical patients. Beginning on March 3rd, 2014, Facilities were able to apply for licensing through the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
"A Better Way" was one of the first licensed dispensaries in Southern Oregon, and remains a leader in the cannabis movement in southern Oregon, and Klamath County.
In 2018, the people at A Better Way ran the initiative to allow for recreational cannabis facilities in Klamath Falls, and WON that right!
As a result, A Better Way is now able to provide cannabis and cannabis products to anyone 21 years old and older. Without ABW, there still would not be ANY legal cannabis facilities in Klamath Falls.

The team at "A Better Way" fought long and hard to pass the initiative to overturn the recreational marijuana business bans in the city of Klamath Falls. In 2018, the team collected enough signatures to take the decision away from the city, and give it back to the people... and the people said YES to rec businesses!
So, April 1st, 2019, ABW became the first fully recreational and medical retail facility in the city of Klamath Falls. We earned it.
No doubt. And it wasn't easy...
So now, anyone 21+ years old can visit our store and purchase from the huge inventory of cannabis and cannabis products that we carry.
By overturning the bans here, we also opened the door for other marijuana businesses. The hope is that this new industry can help to revitalize the local economy and provide the much needed jobs and revenue that Klamath needs! So now there are choices and options in Klamath. We hope that you will take the time to come and visit the folks who made it all happen here! Boy do we have some stories to tell!

Who We Are
I'm Edward (Ed) Medina Jr., the founder and owner of A Better Way Cannabis. I am an Oregon native, and have lived in Klamath Falls most of my life. I attended Mazama High School, and graduated Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree in 2000.
While at OIT, I earned the President's Senior Cup, one of the highest honors at OIT. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA, and am a proud OIT alumni. I then attended Pacific University in pursuit of a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2001. I soon realized that becoming a physical therapist was not my calling.
After returning home to Klamath Falls, I worked at Merle West Medical Center (now Sky Lakes) in several areas of healthcare. I worked as a physical therapy assistant, a cardiac rehab technician, and as a histotechnologist in the tissues lab. At the same time, my wife and I were raising two sons, Rick, and Eddie III.

My Wife Cathy and I were determined to make a better life for us all. After a short time, we decided to go in a very different direction. We opened Absolute Computer Service in October of 2002, a computer repair, service and sales company. We ran Absolute Computers until early 2015. At that time, we transitioned to the dispensary, and closed Absolute.
In 2008, I was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C, a deadly liver disease. When faced with these health challenges, I looked for alternatives to prescription drugs, since most all pharmaceuticals can potentially cause more liver damage. The Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) became a blessing in my life. Cannabis gave me an alternative to the prescription drugs that were slowly killing me. At that time, I learned all I could about medicinal marijuana and the OMMP. I was no stranger to cannabis. I had used it off and on since I was a young teenager. I never dreamed of the day I would come to depend on it as medicine. But I did.
When I learned that Oregon was planning to allow MMJ dispensaries to operate within the state, I began to plan for the opening of a location in Klamath Falls. That was no small task. It has been a long and frustrating process getting to where we are, but the reward has been resoundingly worth the struggle.
Helping others was the reason I went into healthcare, and now I have the opportunity to actually do it! I cannot express in words to you how much it means to me that we were able to get "A Better Way" off the ground, and a chance to actually do something meaningful in this lifetime. I am 100% dedicated to this mission, and will do everything in my power to ensure that our customers receive the best service and the best products the great state of Oregon has to offer.
